For Young People

Click on the topics below to find out more

YAC can help young people with things like:

  • legal hassles (being charged with breaking the law, child protection issues, changing your name….)
  • support while on bail for court matters
  • problems at home or school
  • family relationships
  • lack of accommodation and/or income
  • being the victim of a crime (including abuse)
  • discrimination issues

CONTACT US to talk to a worker. If you don’t know if we can help – still contact us and we will help to find someone who can help you if we can’t.

It is best not to just drop into the office without an appointment because YAC workers are often out at court or visiting other young people and so may not be here when you come –but if you need to, we will do our best to help you.

All YAC’s services are:

  • Free – YAC is funded to provide these services
  • Voluntary – YAC only works with a young person if they want to work with YAC staff
  • Confidential – no contact is made with anyone (eg families, teachers, police, other adults, government agencies) and no information about the young person is passed on to anyone else without the young person’s permission (unless there is a serious risk of significant and immediate harm to the young person or someone else or the law says we must – in which case, we will tell the young person)

YAC staff are here to do the best we can to help you: this document sets out how we can work together.   Client Charter

Let us know how things went for you – good feedback helps us with our funding!   Feedback

If things didn’t go so well – you need to tell us that too!    Complaints

If you want to know what the law says you can and can’t do as a young person (a person under 18 years of age) or you have any other legal question – go to the LEGAL INFO page.

If you still can’t find what you want to know – CONTACT US to talk to someone
